Below is the list of basics, self-defense techniques, kihon and kata that the adult student must learn in order to advance to the rank listed below.
White Belt
Following the karate trial, new students start their karate journey at White Belt.
Yellow Belt

- Ippon Kumite 1 & 2
- Basic strikes, blocks and kicks
- Self-Defense: Collar grab, front choke, side choke, rear choke, wrist grabs, backfall, forward roll
- Self-Defense: Verbal
- Self-Defense: Kicking from the ground after being knocked over by attacker
- Self-Defense: Forward roll after being hit from behind by attacker, getting up and striking
- Wrist break Bunkai
- Walking basics focusing on stances
- Basic sparring
Orange Belt
- Kihon 3
- Kicking Kihon 1
- Chon Ji kata
- Uke kata
- Pinan 1 kata
- Standing side break fall
- Rolling into a side break fall
- Ippon Kumite 3, 4 & 5
- Self-Defense: Wrist grab abduction scenario, headlock abduction scenario
- Self-Defense: Bear hug front and back

- Walking basics with blocks, punches and kicks, focusing on set, footwork and power

- Self-Defense: Hair grab from front and behind, full nelson, chicken wings, ground (with attacker on top, being punched and choked)
- Advanced kicks (hook, back, spinning hook and back, inward and outward crescent)
- Stacking: three attackers with pads
- Sparring: Point and continuous
- Bunkai from Taikyoku 1, 2 and 3
Purple Belt
- Kihon 5
- Pinan 4 kata
- Pinan 5 kata
- Advanced basics and kicks
- Self-Defense 2: Gang circle with pads, attacker choking from behind with a bag/purse strap, attacker pushing/hand on shoulder
- Bunkai from Pinan 1-3
- Point and Clash Sparring
Green Belt
- Saifa kata
- Geki Sai kata
- Nihaku kata
- Bunkai from Pinan 4 & 5
- Burst drill with rolls
- Self-Defense: ground on your stomach, verbal with multiple attackers, stacking with pads and sparring (4 attackers), gang circle with grab attacks, knife and gun stick up scenario

Brown Belt
- Sankaku kata
- Shihaku kata
- Kicking Kihon 2
- Bunkai up to Nihaku kata
- Ippon Kumite 1-6
- All basics, walking basics, advanced techniques
- Self-Defense: using joint locks, sweeps, and takedowns, basic throws, plus active shooter scenario

Black Belt
SHODAN | 1st Degree
- Bassai kata
- Kanku kata
- Demonstrate all basics and self-defense in color belt curriculum
- Demonstrate advanced Bunkai from every kata
- Gang Circle with pads, sparring, grab attacks
- Self-Defense: knife, gun, baseball bat
- Teaching Requirement for Senpai Title: Must have been a Seijin for at least two years and can demonstrate running a class by yourself
NIDAN | 2nd Degree
- Black Belt Kihon 1
- Tekki Shodan kata
- Empi kata
- Kata of choice from Black Belt Kata List
- Teaching Requirement for Sensei Title: Must have taught classes for two years and can show the ability to manage the floor with assistant instructors (Kohai, Seijin)
